About Tara

Music Therapy Adelaide
Her Philosophy

All children, regardless of ability, have something unique and significant to contribute to the world around them.

Music therapy has a powerful way of giving children and young people a voice - an opportunity to express who they are and what they have to say in a safe and accepting environment where words are not needed.

Tara's starting point is to focus and celebrate what your child CAN do rather than what they can't.

Goals related to functioning and well-being will be addressed but we build on a foundation of acceptance - your child is amazing just as they are.

Families play the most important role in supporting children with additional needs and the challenges impact each member in different ways.

For this reason, Tara is passionate about providing a family-centred practice inclusive of parents / care-givers and siblings.

Her Story

Tara has been a Registered Music Therapist since 2006 and honestly believes she has the best job in the world.

After graduating from the University of Melbourne in 2005, she gained experience working in aged care, special education and early intervention, but discovered her passion was working with children with Autism, developmental delay and behaviors of concern.

In 2009 she relocated to Adelaide, South Australia and established a private practice with a focus on children and young people with Autism and neuro-developmental disorders.

Over the years she has developed an approach that addresses key developmental challenges associated with Autism using a variety of music therapy and sensory-integration techniques.

In 2013 the youngest of her four children was diagnosed with Autism. This further fuelled her passion to discover new ways that music could be used to address goals related to speech / communication and social / emotional skills.

Over 15 years experience has enabled Tara to build a database of knowledge and expertise that she draws on when creating an individualised program for your child.

Tara enjoys sharing her knowledge and experience with others, so also offers consultancy for schools, agencies and organisations interested in how music can be incorporated into an existing program to achieve a therapeutic outcome.

Tara has extensive experience speaking at professional development events on topics related to child development, Autism, disability and the use of music.
